What perfect weather.

I haven't gotten much sleep the past couple of days. Noah was on a great schedule last week, sleeping three to four hour chunks at night. But all of that has been forgotten and I'm waking up every hour and a half. Instead of grumbling I'm trying to be positive. It's too sad to think of what it would be like without my babykins, so if he comes with sleeplessness, then so be it.

Anywho, I was woken up this morning by baby and sat up bleary eyed to nurse him. Rudy heard me cooing to Noah and came upstairs and opened the blinds. It was snowing! How exciting for the first snow to be on the first day of December.

We're getting out of here for three weeks and going back home to San Diego for most of this month. I'm glad we'll get this little taste of real winter, and then get to go vacation in the warmth I'm so used to.

Happy December indeed.

Snow!

{Our backyard}

I thought I should post some pictures of the snow from a couple of weeks ago. Amazingly, all of it is almost gone, and the temperatures have soared to the mid 60's! Rudy and I were marvelling this morning that it went from the low 30's to the 50's and now to almost 70 in a matter of days. All I can say is that I hope this weather pattern continues, and that we really are approaching spring.

In regard to the above picture, remember this little adventure from when I let Gatsby off the leash for the first time? I swore he'd never go off leash again. However, after months of walking the same path, I've started giving him bouts of running free with the other dogs. And he finally gets it!! Even when he goes off and chases something, he always eventually realizes he's alone and that he better catch up fast. Sometimes it takes him ten minutes, but I've learned to calm down and know that he'll be racing around the corner in no time.

6 more weeks of winter.

For the past couple of days it has been snowing more than I've ever seen it snow. While the stuff is beautiful, I can't help but ache for warmer weather. I never thought I would be such a baby about all of this, but I guess my California roots are deeper than I thought. I think I may weep with joy on the first day that I can go outside with a t-shirt on.

Anyhow, I was looking through the top Northwest House Tours on Apartment Therapy, and came across this colorful pad. I love the picture of the back yard above, as it conjures up warm, summery thoughts. I can't tell if thinking of warm weather is making everything better or worse.

I don't really care either way. I'm going to keep dreaming.

January 4, 2010

It's been a while.

I haven't been here much lately. I found out that the entrance exam to get into the interior design program for next fall is due on January 11th, (yes that's right, in 7 days), so I've been drawing and writing and putting together my resume like crazy for the last week. Right now I'm working on a visual narrative to explain how to change a flat tire on a car. Right up my alley! Not.

This cold weather has really been beating me down. Rudy told me today that I need to squat down like a caveman over the heater every time it comes on. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm almost to that point. Basically I just want to turn on our electric blanket and stay in bed all day. Good thing our computer, (which we watch TV and movies on), isn't in our room, or I might just forget about interior design school and stay warm instead.

I will say though that the snow is magic. Yesterday it was sunny out and all the snow was twinkling like glitter. I guess you have to take the good with the bad huh?

Lastly, I'm really excited for our homegroup to start up again tonight with a white elephant gift exchange! The presents Rudy and I are bringing are pretty much amazing. I'll let you know what I come home with tonight.

Snow.

The snow came this morning. It was every bit as magical as I imagined it. I sat on the porch with my tea and a blanket and watched it float peacefully and silently down.

It didn't stay long, just stuck to the grass for a while and then was gone. Such a beautiful morning for getting beautiful news from my best friend...
